Loved this book. Have read it many times. Having said that, I am quite sorry to have bought it since it is only number one in a three book series with no hope of books two and three ever materializing. I have tried to stop buying series books from authors who consistently disappoint in promising books and never delivering. If they do, years later, more often than not the books are hurried and just thrown together to get it done with. Hopefully Michele Sinclair will follow through with the other two books and not give us a slap dash product on each. I could say the same for George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire with his final two books.

The Christmas Knight Zebra Historical Romance Michele Sinclair 9781420108552 Books Reviews

I don't usually review the books I read simply because I'm lazy and eager to get on to a new book. But I couldn't let this one go by without giving a good word for this author. This book was excellent, believable, and absorbing. I will continue to read Sinclair''s books and I highly recommend her.
"The Christmas Knight" is a very entertaining delightful surprise. Author Michele Sinclair has written a beautifully romantic well written historical romance. It's clever, sexy and very enjoyable. Our hero, Ranulf, is a wounded knight who believes his scarred damaged looks are too ugly for any young, beautiful woman to look upon or love. This has caused him to be quite grumpy. On his journey to his new castle, Hunswick, Ranulf is accompanied by our heroine's father who tragically dies in route home. Ranulf is with this man when he dies and is forced to agree to his dying wishes. The father asks Ranulf to merry his youngest daughter. He agrees.

Our spunky heroine Bronwyn de Breton discovers this news and imminently begins working on a plan to change Ranulf's plans to marrying her instead of her sister. Bronwyn is sacrificing herself to protect her younger sister from a man she believes is a very mean. Ranulf discovers her plot and sparks fly. The romance between Ranulf and Bronwyn is sweet and steamy. There is a nasty villain who is very effective in this story causing the hero and heroine much grief and heartache. This story is action-packed and very fun to read.

This book is number four in a series. The history add-ins were informative adding interest and depth to this Medieval story. It helps to give the reader a since of atmosphere and real place in history. I believed I was there, back in time with these characters. I could not lay this book down once I started it. I did not want this story to end. I wanted more! This wonderful book goes on my keeper shelf. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Grade A+

Order of series -
1. The Highlander's Bride
2. To Wed A Highlander
3. Desiring The Highlander
4. The Christmas Knight ~ 5 Stars
5. Tempting The Highlander
Sir Laon le Briton finally locates his new liege lord, Ranulf de Gunnar, who has been trying to avoid his new responsibility of lord of Hunswick Castle. Ranulf, known as Deadeye due to having only one eye, is a warrior knight and has no interest in inheriting his new role. On the reluctant trip to take his place at Hunswick, Sir Laon is fatally injured, before dying he makes Ranulf promise to wed his youngest daughter, Lily. Ranulf promises Laon that he will, but knows he doesn't want a vain wife, surmised from Sir Laon's description of Lily and he has no intention of marrying Lily or anyone else. Upon arrival at Hunswick, he orders Lily and her two sisterrs to be removed from Hunswick, he uses the excuse that he does not want to subject the women to hmself, women typically avoid him. Lily certainly does not want to wed him, as King Henry as ordered, so she pleads with her oldest sister, Bronwyn, to take her place. Bronwyn is the take charge, responsible sister and she agrees to pretend to be Lily. Ranulf knows who she is by Sir Laon's description and he is instantly attracted to Bronwyn. Bronwyn sees past his disfigurements;she basically sees Ranulf as ordinary,to which no other women have before; she is also stubborn and argumentative, and that pleases Ranulf as well. A well written story, humorous, sensual; I like the personalities ascribed to the characters; I encourage you to read this book.
This is a great Medieval (12th century) Christmas romance. Sinclair begins each chapter with a tradition of Christmastide or Twelfthtide (the 12 days of Christmas) as celebrated then.

It's the story of Ranulf, a knight of King Henry II, who is scarred (literally and figuratively) as a result of his heroism of the past and shunned by most women. He is a warrior known for his feats of valor, but with the death of his father and cousin, he reluctantly is persuaded by an older knight, Leon le Breton, at Henry's insistence, to return to England and accept the responsibility of Lord of Hunswick Castle in Cambria. In an accident aboard ship that claims the life of le Breton, Ranulf grants the dying man's wish and agrees to marry the youngest of his three daughters, Lily. But when he arrives at Huswick, it is the oldest daughter Bronwyn who captures his heart. Bronwyn is posing as her younger sister to try and save her from an unwanted marriage, but Ranulf is not fooled. It is Bronwyn he wants.

Sinclair does a great job of weaving in the Christmas season's traditions that were being celebrated in the 12th century (and many today as well) while drawing us into a true love between two people who have much to give. I really enjoyed this one! Two minor nits Bronwyn's hair color is described alternately as gold, light brown, dark tawny and chestnut which are not the same color (same problem in Desiring the Highlander, by the way). Also, the "loose thread" of the romance between Ranulf's best friend and Scot, Tyr, and Bronwyn's sister Edythe is never resolved (not even in the epilog) and that left me hungry for more!

If you like this one, you might try the author's McTiernay series. Here's the list

1. The Highlander's Bride
2. To Wed a Highlander
3. Desiring a Highlander
4. Tempting a Highlander

#5-6 are not out yet

5. A Highlander's Touch
6. Highlander Desire
7. Highlander Love
