Amazing SpiderMan Brand New Day Vol 1 Dan Slott Marc Guggenheim Steve McNiven Salvador Larroca Phil Jimenez Books
This was my first ever comic book/graphic novel. I was beginning to feel like I missed out on a whole world of fun by never getting into comics when I was younger so I decided to pick some up now. I defaulted to Spider-Man because I always liked him best, and I knew that he was a flagship of Marvel so I was assuming that the quality would be relatively high for the writing and the art. That being said, I really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, the "goofy" nature of the dialogue and his "cheesy" punch lines threw me off for a little bit. However, after letting out my inner child I was able to get into it much more. I am a bit concerned with how quickly and often they are introducing new characters, The Mugger in a Spidey Mask, The two Crime Families, Jackpot, Mr. Negative, "The Menace" (who looks an awful lot like just another Goblin). However I am going to trust that these characters develop and we learn more about them as the comics move forward.
Having no "knowledge" of past events in The Amazing Spider-Man series did not hinder my reading of "Brand New Day" at all. They stuck with the basics that just about everyone knew already, and really haven't brought up much in the past story lines. I had seen numerous recommendations to make this the starting point if you were a new reader, and I was not let down. I feel like what I remember from the cartoons is plenty of background for me to start reading with this arc.
All in all it was a fun read, and a blast from the past. Made me feel like a kid again (although I'm not that old to begin with), and this may just be my gateway drug to other comics.

Amazing SpiderMan Brand New Day Vol 1 Dan Slott Marc Guggenheim Steve McNiven Salvador Larroca Phil Jimenez Books Reviews
This follows the Spiderman events of "One More Day" which in many ways resets Spiderman to his old days. Purists will likely hate what has happened to him but I'm not so attached as I'm just getting into graphic novels.
The tales mostly deal with Spidey trying to make money so he can find an affordable apartment (thus taking shots of Spidey as Peter Parker) and then we've got the whole issue of whether his friend, Harry Osborn, has returned as the Green Goblin. Spidey also has to deal with people who are not happy that he chooses to be unmasked.
Written by Marc Guggenheim, Dan Slott, Zeb Wells and Bob Gale. Artwork by Steve McNiven, Salvador Larroca and Phil Jimenez.
There's some interesting cover artwork in back, a short and old Spidey tale but most interesting is a Spider-Man Manifesto written by Tom Brevoort which talks about all the ideas for rebooting Spidey.
ARTWORK PRESENTATION B plus; STORY/PLOTTING B to B plus; CHARACTERS/DIALOGUE B; SPIDERMAN FOCUSES B to B plus; ACTION SCENES B; OVERALL GRADE B; WHEN READ end of November 2012.
SPOILER people say MJ is missing but doesn't Jackpot look a lot like her and she does call Spidey "Tiger". Hmmm, is it her? Maybe.
This is it, Arachnophiles! The most pulse-pounding piece of four color fiction to be delivered unto the Mighty Marvel Minions in decades! You asked for more Spidey! You demanded it! And, by Buckley, you're gonna get it! Same Old Power. Same Old Responsibility. Brand New Day! After the devastatingly heartwarming events of One More Day, Peter Parker puts the past behind him and sets forth on a Brand New Day! Spidey's new status quo gets a swift punch in the gut as Dan Slott (She-Hulk; Avengers The Initiative) and super-star artist Steve McNiven (Civil War) hit the ground running with new villains, new friends, and some familiar faces that promise to make Peter's life messier than ever before. This is where it's all happening! spider-man's life before civil war on top of the world! now with his identity made secret again thanks to a deal with mephisto but in exchange peter' marriage to mary jane never happened
While it took some pain to get to this point in Spidey's story, the results in this book are so much fun that, much like childbirth, you forget the bad stuff. Dan Slott was born to write Spider-Man and it shows on every page. Beyond the first two story arcs of Amazing Spider-Man Brand New Day, you also get Tom Brevoort's "Spider-Man Manifesto" discussing what makes the title tick and how to correct some past mistakes. Dan Slott's very first Spider-Man story (a backup from the 90s) is also in here and fans of Captain Jean DeWolff will love it.
This Brand Nwe Day arc is just great, the art is excellent (Steve Mcniven and Phil Jimenez definetly rocks), the story introduce a lot of new and inrteresting villians and heroes, the new spiderman status quo is relly interesting, if you love spiderman this book is a must have, and if you think that you are a little bit lost in all spiderman's old storys then this book is the perfect start.
